Architecture and Fiction - Borders with the Impossible - a working document
CONCEPT
Odense Architecture Festival OAFx will curate and produce a new art program for the 2020 festival edition, including a group photo exhibition shown in Kunstbygningen Filosoffen and an installation in public space. The art program, titled Architecture and Fiction - Borders with the Impossible, examines conditions of a good life in today’s cities, launching an important discussion for the future of our lives in urban spaces. The project is rooted in the festival wider theme, Welfare Architecture.
Invited artists in the group exhibition: Filip Dujardin Fictions, Alban Lécuyer Downtown Corrida, Dionisio Gonzaléz Cartographies of Removal, Luca Capuano The Architecture of Exile, Felicia Simon HOME, Cristian Radu Selected, Jesper Just Intercourses.
Suggested artists for installation (agreement pending): Karoline H. Larsen Collective Strings; Alaa Minawi My Light; Lights on Romania, site-specific installation; Original light installation commissioned by OAFx with graphic designer Rasmus Koch. The exhibition and the installation are a cohesive statement on our urban routes, settlements and shelters, dwelling practices - anchored in the present, with a look towards the future.
The selected works share tropes that refer to urban space - hospitable or not, possible or impossible, real or fictitious - and the underlining fragility of built environment, despite its apparent solidity. Current global challenges (migratory trends, demographic shifts, climate change) are central to many art practices, which drives this project to consider artistic reflections on a changing world, in the context of architecture and urban space.
